Ever since most of the countries were put on lockdown due to COVID-19 Pandemic, millions of workers around the world have been encouraged to start working from home – to practice social distancing and to help prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

Even though remote working has already been a big trend before the current situation occurs, there are many people who are not yet familiar with the way remote working works.

Clearly, working from office is much different than working from your own home. There are some changes you need to do and some challenges you need to overcome in order to make remote working effectively work for you.

DISTRACTIONS

Ah! Your favorite TV show is currently on! You promise yourself you’re gonna watch for just 5 mins… and you watch and watch until you lose track of time.

You’re working from the comfort of your own home but don’t let it hinder you from doing your work duties. Anything inside your home can be a distraction for you – unfinished house chores, your kids begging you to play with them, plus your cat wanting some attention and stuff.

How to overcome?

Have a home office. It doesn’t need to be a huge room to make it an ‘office’, just a right space where you can put your desk and other essential work tools.

Set a schedule for your working hours and tell your family not to disturb you during that time.

You need to separate your personal life from work.

MINIMAL SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION

Working from home means you get to work all by yourself with a less supervision and direction. It is a challenge since your self-discipline is being tested here.

Some workers get tired of their bosses bossing them around all the time, but that’s what bosses need to do since they give us guidance.

So since boss is not around, it is really a challenge for you to keep on track.

How to overcome?

Okay, since your boss is hundreds or probably thousands of miles away from you, the best way is to remain in close communication with them.

At least twice a week, connect with them through audio or video call to discuss your progress, concerns, or ideas you have to share. It is important to always keep them updated so they can give you feedback or some advice.

Take note:

When you get confused over something, ASK them.

When something goes wrong, REPORT to them.

When you need some advice, TELL you need them.

When you have any ideas, DISCUSS to them.

You always need to be straightforward to prevent miscommunication.

OVERWORKING

One of the reasons some companies don’t allow remote work is they fear workers will slack off, but, in fact, the opposite tends to be the reality.

Working from the comfort of your own home gives you the right energy and inspiration you need in work.

It boosts your productivity so you are highly motivated to get all things done.

But hey, you don’t need to overwork!

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you need to work all day and juggle multiple tasks at once!

How to overcome?

Sometimes, even after your work for the day is done, you can’t help but to feel the urge to get your laptop and log in again.

It feels like you have an unfinished business that needs to be finished RIGHT NOW!

The best thing you have to do to prevent overworking is to set your work schedule.

Make sure to follow it because you don’t want to get overstressed, do you?

Also, you can create a goal calendar for a week and stick to it. This will help you to stay on what you’ve planned.

If you love multitasking, then set hours for each task to help you manage your time properly.

Remote working gives you the freedom to work from anytime, anywhere. Due to the global pandemic, working from home becomes even more widespread in the world. Some experts say, even after the pandemic, expect more people will stay on remote working – that’s why it is now considered as a ‘new normal’.

Despite the challenges mentioned above, remote working works for everyone as long as these common issues are handled properly. All you need to have is self-discipline, high motivation, and your amazing skills for you to work from home effectively.

      – looking for a hiring company, waiting in a long queue to be called for interview, and such things that require you a lot of energy and patience.

      Thanks to the technology, getting a job is now clicks away.

      Lately, number of people who prefer to work from home rises because they say home is where they are most productive than working in an office. Many companies have been allowing employees to work remotely since then.

      Based on a research, as of 2019, the number of companies with remote workforce is escalating

      – 66% of companies allow remote work and 16% is fully remote.

      There are various job openings posted online

      – however, not all job opportunities you see online are legit because others are scam. If you are going to apply for a work-at-home job, make sure that you don’t fall for scam employers.

      So how do you identify if it is a scam or not?

      1. Before applying, read the description of the job first. A legitimate job description always includes a detailed list of responsibilities and the required skills they are looking for in an employee to know whether you are fit on the role or not. Aside from the job description, the salary details must be included and clearly stated, as well.
      2. If you are promised high pay for not much work, turn down the offer. It’s clear that the ‘employer’ is just trying to bait you.
      3. Don’t get involved with an ’employer’ that can’t make its business perfectly clear to you or one that’s willing to hire you without even a phone interview.
      4. Research the company. An online background-check of a company wouldn’t take so much of your time so try to look for its website or social media and take a look at the reviews to know what other people say about them.
      5. Never ever give out money or your bank account. If you are told you have to pay for training, then it’s clear that the company you are applying for is a scam.

      Working from home gives you flexible work schedule and lets you balance work and family. This is why more people are now switching from office-based to home-based.

      When applying for work online, just keep away from scams. Don’t let them fool you 🙂

          Job interviews can be so nerve-wracking especially for the fresh graduates and for the ones who don’t have any work experience yet.

          Having no work experience makes you feel a lot more intimidated. But you should not worry about that because there are a lot of companies who are actually looking for employees who are inexperienced and offer them entry-level jobs.

          Don’t worry about being stuck with that job because you will get promoted later on if you perform well.

          You must learn how to turn job interviews into job offers. That’s a skill you need to use to get jobs and promotions throughout your work career.

          So what are the things you need to consider in order to give good impression on your job interview?

          1. Show willingness to take the obstacle that comes with every job.

          – Every company in the world faces a problem. There is no such a perfect company that is always on top. Employees are the heart of a company. If the employees fail, the company dies. In order for you to win the interview, show the HR Manager that you are 100% willing to take the rough with the smooth that comes with the company.

           
           

                2. Apply all the relevant skills you have that could make you do well in this job.

          – For you to impress the HR Manager, wow them with the skills you have even though you have no work experience yet. It will make them think you will be fit on the job. When hired, you must apply all these skills so that you will become one of the best employees

           
           

                3. You should understand the realities of a job you have never done.

          –  Since it’s your first time to work on a company, you should understand first how things are done. Try to adapt new skills and learning so that you will be prepared to whatever job gives to you. You should acquire new skills because the more skills you got, the higher the chance you’ll ace every job interview.

           
           
                It is normal to feel nervous when being interviewed for a job. However, you should always put on your mind first that you need to get that job. You’re just one step away from it. Don’t lose it.
           
           
                Even though you don’t have any work experience, the more interviews you go on, the better you’ll be at talking about yourself. And that way, every job interview will be just a piece of cake for you.
